Welcome to "Welcome Inn" Bed and Breakfast!Welcome Inn Bed and Breakfast is a romantic Victorian farmhouse built in 1895 by a descendant of one of the founding families of Westbrook, and it retains its inviting country charm. It is conveniently located to all the wonderful things the shoreline and river valley have to offer.The home and guestrooms are decorated in cozy elegance. Complimentary refreshments are always available. All the rooms have cable TV and air conditioning, and 3 have in-suite private baths. One suite can be arranged with an adjoining bath that may sleep up to 6. Sit in front of a cozy fire with a glass of sherry, good book or board game. When the weather permits, relax on the deck or in the garden. For the energetic, a game of badminton awaits.
Description of Westbrook Area:Westbrook is located on the Connecticut shoreline, and is considered part of the Connecticut River Valley. The area was settled in the early 1600's - so there are many lovely historic homes, landmarks, and museums. Westbrook, a boater's dream, boasts the second largest marina in the northeast and a huge marine district for the purchase of boats, sails, repairs, and all manner of equipment. We have a beautiful beach you can enjoy, there are great restaurants, and 400 antique dealers in a 10-mile radius. The Westbrook area offers historic landmark theaters, river cruises, music festivals, 2 casinos, Premium Outlet Shopping, local crafts, flea markets, hiking and biking trails, and the area is a birdwatcher's delight. Fall foliage is spectacular! Call for information about Christmas and holiday happenings.Attractions in or near Westbrook:The Westbrook area has much to offer, including: Essex Steam Train & River Cruise, Island Cruises, theme Connecticut River cruises such as Murder Mystery Dinners, Dixieland, and Jazz Cruises. Enjoy great theater at the Goodspeed Opera House, where many Broadway plays originated; also the Ivoryton and Chester Playhouses. If you don't mind a 20-minute drive, there are the Shubert and Long Wharf Theaters in New Haven. A 40-minute drive will take you to The Bushnell Theater in Hartford to enjoy Broadway cast productions.Cross the Connecticut River on a ferry to a landing that has existed since the 1700's, and continue to historic Gillette Castle to see a spectacular view of the Connecticut River Valley. In winter, you may take a carriage ride through the park with a brace of white horses as the sleigh bells ring and you enjoy the period decorations. Walk the lovely historic streets of Essex and Chester Villages. There are wonderful Christmas celebrations throughout the Westbrook area. There is also Mystic Seaport, where Amistad was filmed and you can view Mystic's tall ships. In New London you may visit the submarine base and other historic points of interest, and more... For the day tripper: Westbrook is 1 1/4 hours from Newport, Rhode Island and 2 hours from Boston/Cape Cod, or New York.

FROM BOSTON/RHODE ISLAND, take I-95 south (Connecticut Turnpike) to Exit 65. At the end of the exit make a right onto Rte.153 (Essex Road). We are down about 1/3 of a mile on the left, just before the light. Welcome to "Welcome Inn" Bed and Breakfast! FROM HARTFORD/BRADLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, take I-91 south to Rte. 9 south (Old Saybrook). Get off at Exit 3 (Essex, Rtes. 153/154). At the end of the exit is a stop sign; go through to the blinking light (Rte. 153). Make a right and go about 4 miles. You will come to a stop light at Rte. 166; continue through.
